Michael Huens was born and raised in Dallas, getting an early interest in filmmaking by shooting short films. He worked in many production capacity, from runner to production assistant to get his foot in the door. He attended the University of Texas as a Film Major. He came to Los Angeles in 1986 and has been working consistently in the Industry since then.

Early on, he worked on many independent films as a coordinator, location manager, assistant director and unit production manager, before becoming a staff member at Creative Alliance, a commercial production company. There, from 1989-1992, he produced spots for numerous Fortune 500 companies throughout North America and Europe. In 1993, he oversaw the slate of films at Grand Central Entertainment, working as their Director of Development.

Since that time, he has worked as a Producer on many films including Tim Ramos's "California Indian" about Indian Casinos and the politics around them, Chris Eyre's "A Thousand Roads" which showed the dazzling, life affirming stories of many Indian cultures around the world, "Motorcycle Mania III" starring the distinctive Jesse James, Sonya Bourn's "Sweet Union" a comedy about a strong family of women in the South, Jane Clark's "Carrie's Choice" which chronicles a young woman's struggle to make a decision women face, Eriq La Salle's "Crazy as Hell" a psychological thriller which La Salle directed and starred in and the Polish Brothers groundbreaking and award winning "Jackpot" which concerns two failed Americans journeying across the country to win Karaoke contests, "Not Again", which starred Susie Cusack of that famous acting family and "Chronos", a sci-fi adventure film. He has also produced trailers for films including "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" with Jim Carrey and "Fire in the Sky" with James Garner.

He has also worked in television, producing a season each of Showtime’s "Compromising Situations" and USA’s "Teenage Alien Fighters". He has also produced over two hundred commercials (among them 20 Clio and 3 Telly Winners), working on five continents. Besides Creative Alliance, his commercial stints include Boyington Productions, Brainstorm Creative, RSA, 40 Acres and a Mule, Frontline, Rosetti and Dentsu Prox. The directors he has worked with include Spike Lee, Kinka Usher, Paul Boyington, Marcus Nispel, Dean Cundey and Kevin Dole among others. His clients include Ford, Target, Taco Bell, Pepsi, Coor’s, Microsoft, McDonald’s and Paramount Pictures.

He has been a featured speaker for Panel Events for Film Independent in Los Angeles and he has been written up in Post Magazine as well. He has also served as a juror at the Woods Hole Film Festival. He lives in Los Angeles with his fiancé, writer-director Sonya Bourn.
