Sweet Union
"You can get paroled from prison,
but not from your family."
It's Sunday morning in Union County, North Carolina, and the Bailey
women are making trouble, making amends and making breakfast. As they
prepare breakfast, Iris Bailey, her daughters and a family friend
discuss life, love and eldest daughter Dixie's adjustment to freedom
after a stay in the state pen. This is a kitchen full of women with
blood ties, longstanding grudges, and unconditional love; sprinkled
generously with the trials of married life, single life and life on
parole. These are the women who bring all the comedy, tragedy and
cleavage to Southern Gothic Lore.
